Confusion over sovereignty
What´s the score over sovereignty? Nobody seems to know, because
whenever someone in authority refers to it the confusion begins. We
have seen how Moratinos and Miliband have handled it in Madrid the
other day. Moratinos says that sovereignty ís always there and that
at the right time Spain will press for it.
In the meantime, certain obstacles have to be removed first. Well,
well.
And Miliband also struck up the band of confusion. He said that
whatever steps are taken on sovereignty they should be taken in the
tripartite forum.Oh dear, but weren´t we told from the beginning
that sovereignty would not be discussed in the tripartite meetings?
And that´s how it goes. One day we hear this, the next we hear that,
and a state of confusion reisgns in our state.
Meanwhile it´s not Monday
Meanwhile it´s not Monday. It´s Tuesday,so that means that another
long weekend is over. The rest of the year, until Christmas, becomes
a period without a long weekend. What bad planning! Why don´t we
have a long weekend every month? At least!
Expectations
It´s time to expect "the expected", or "the unexpected", whichever
way you look at it. It so happens election time is here and before
long the parties will be throwing a party.
It´s time to clear your ears to make sure you hear what will be
offered by all and sundry. Well, it makes a change, doesn´t it?
Wigs and all
I hear, because I hear everything, that the invitations have been
sent for the ceremonial opening of the legal year, which is the
event which congregates all our learned friends, wigs and all.
This year there will be at least one wig less, that of the Chief
Justice, given that for the first time in a long time the ceremony
will not be led by the Chief Justice. Presumably that may not be the
only change this year.
Bumpy ride
Keep your car at home? The only campaign that is going to succeed in
people making less use of their cars is if the state of our roads
continue to deteriorate. Gosh, what a bumpy ride when you drive
about.
There is not one road in Gibraltar that provides a smooth ride. You
can blame those heavy lorries, you can blame who you like, the fact
is that our roads are in a bad state.

Sale el Sol
Como están las cosas, mi querida
Cynthia, tiroteo in La Linea, se escapa un preso in our Gibraltar y
lo del barco durando mas que un dia sin bread.
Todo lo que hace falta is that we ask the Spaniards for assistance,
después de lo que hicieron ellos when a ship went aground recently
near Algeciras y habia fuel all over the place.
Es que there are those in Spain who don't see their faults, es parte
of the Latin mentality, pero since we are half Latin at least vemos
la mitad I imagínate.
Lo que esta claro es que el supuesto cooperation lacks goodwill,
porque algunos on the other side no pierden una oportunidad to
attack us, tripartite or not.
Por eso, my dear Cloti, we have to continue doing things our way,
porque it's the only way.
Claro, and we have to show that we can run ourselves, porque that is
the yardstick used by others to determine if we can be a
self-governing colonia Colonia reminds me of El Sol which came
through the levanter the other day. Nadie le ha hecho caso, por lo
del apathy I imagínate, pero dijo algunas verdades, tal como que we
have to be extra careful before we give the green light to any
development porque there is not that much land in our Gibraltar. Es
que we are allowing the building of so-called luxury blocks for
property speculation, which will take us nowhere. Otra cosa que
quedo bien soleada is that el comercio anda mal in general terms,
aunque algunos se estén poniendo las botas.
Meanwhile, según dicen los sabios, el building of the new air
terminal will go to a Spanish company called Ferrovial, but it has
nothing to do with any Gibraltarian called Ferro. Y Haymills could
end up being attached to the cola of the Spanish.
Por otro lado, los estanqueros from Cadiz andan diciendo that
smuggling from Gibraltar is to blame for their lost sales, aunque
culpan al Spanish foreign Ministration for having told the aduana to
turn a blind eye to tobacco smuggling for the sake of good
relations. Que me dices? Lo que oyes.
I imagínate que it is a secret which the Spanish tobacconists have
brought to fight porque le afecta a ellos.
Mientras alguien le pregunta a los del ministerio if this is so, los
elections getting closer here and there Ta, ta. |
