Youth Marquee
Dear Sir
We are a group of young people disillusioned on learning few days
ago, that Youth Marquee, which has annually been mounted for us on
National Day, will not be installed again this year.
Since this event is one we all look forward to, we decided to write
a letter requesting The Minister of Culture to please amend his
current Entertainment Programme and approve our request for the
Youth Marquee to be installed.
Signatures were consequently collected reference this issue, and
this morning we met with Mr. Fabian Vinet, The Minister of Culture,
and handed him our petition.
Although we appreciate him agreeing to meet us at the eleventh hour,
and explained the reasons why there were no arrangements for our
Marquee, we feel that we are being let down on this very special
day.
The Marquee has always been a meeting point where we party and
mingle but due to the current circumstances, we will have no place
to socialise.
With this in mind, we would be grateful if Tlio Qironiclt would
write an article on this subject and therefore attach copy addressed
to the Minister for your perusal.
With anticipated thanks,
Yours faithfully
A Group of Disillusioned Young People
Letter sent to the Minister
Dear Mr. Vinet
The 10th September is a very special day for the youth of Gibraltar6
because just as the" rest of the Gibraltarians, we not only
celebrate our National Day, but also enjoy the various events
designated for our recreation.
It has come to our attention, that the Youth Dance Marquee (which
has been an annual occurrence since the days Gibraltar first started
celebrating National Day, and which for us, is a very special source
of enjoyment, as well as a place where all our youth gather on this
special day), will not be mounted for us this year.
Although we appreciate a Rock Concert will be taking place on the
night, people have to work the following day therefore not all of us
will be able to attend this late night activity, and in any case, it
is during the day when we want to enjoy ourselves hence our request
for the mounting of the Marquee, where we can dance all day long to
our heart's content.
If for any reason this request is impossible, we would be grateful
if another venue would be allocated to us so that we can enjoy
ourselves as we have always done in past years.
Therefore, we, the under mentioned, are signing this petition with
the optimism that you will take our situation into account and
subsequently grant us our request.
Yours faithfully,
A very large Group of Disappointed Youth |
