Two hour stoppage over manning level
|
The Shop Stewards representing the membership at Buildings and Works has decided to stage a two hour stoppage in pursuance of their claim that the minimum manning level agreement agreed be adhered to by the Gibraltar Government.
At the moment the agreed complement is 51 employees short. The stoppage will take place on Tuesday, 16th May between 10.00a.m. and 12.00 noon.
On the issue of the incentive scheme bonus which was suspended by the members, did not satisfy the employees nor the tenants of Government Housing Estates. The existing scheme mechanism is incapable of producing the result it was intended to deliver.
Proper planning is of the utmost importance for any productivity bonus to function. This was not available and many examples to prove their point.
Work requisitions stating the necessary information has been the exception and not the rule.
The scheme depended on employees using their private vehicles.
Availability of materials has also been a contributory factor.
Plant and tools have not been accessible.
Management, without addressing the above issues, decided to implement a strict control of accountability, when the other problems have not been resolved. The members' position has been that, either the situation remains as it was with all the inherent complications, or all matters are addressed, including the minimum manning agreement.
The TGWU/ACTS, notwithstanding, is willing to sit down with the Government to seek a viable solution, that will be satisfactory to both the employees and tenants of Housing Estates, they say.
