More Gibraltar Scholars as 'A' level results gives Gibraltar 96% overall pass

There are many positive indicators and trends in this year’s A level results. The overall pass rate in Gibraltar is 96%. This represents an increase of 1% over last year’s results. In the A* to B category, Bayside has seen an increase of 6% and Westside of 3%.

Significantly, the number of students at Bayside obtaining an A* has increased by over 300%. The overall pass rate in the College has increased by 2%.

This year, there are 18 Gibraltar Scholars (students who obtained three passes or more with A* or A grades) compared to last year’s 12.

"There is, therefore, much to celebrate in these results," said education minister Gilbert Licudi. "The students and their teachers can be proud of these achievements.

"We must not, however, forget those students who have not been as successful in their results as they might have wished. There will be students who will not be able to match their results to the offers they have received from Universities. Those students will now try to find a University place through the UCAS clearing process.

"The Department of Education and the schools will be on hand to provide all support, guidance or assistance that these students may need and I would encourage students to make use of this.

"The Government will also be providing assistance to those students who may not be going off to University and who now wish to embark on a career or vocational training. The Government will be giving guidance to those students on the options available.

"The Government is just as proud of students who enjoy academic success as those who pursue alternative pathways.”
