Primary objective the protection and conservation of listed protected species A group of boat anglers who practise big game fishing in and around Gibraltar waters met last week to form the Gibraltar Game Fishing Association.
The GGFA will unite local recreational fishermen providing a base from which members will be able to access information regarding legislations, events and other information relevant to the sport.
The members present identified the need to support and include as the GGFA’s primary objective the protection and conservation of listed protected species in accordance with world recognised bodies like ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna) and IGFA the International Game Fishing Association.
GGFA recognised and praised the work that The Gibraltar Federation of Sea Anglers has been doing over the past years representing the angling fraternity in Gibraltar. It looks forward to joining GFSA as an associate member to further unite and centralise all aspects of recreational fishing in Gibraltar. Furthermore it acknowledges the support given by the Gibraltar Government to the recreational boat fishermen as a result of the unfortunate recent events at sea.
TOURIST PRODUCT
GGFA also identified the benefits and potential that the recreational big game fishing sports could have as a tourist product.
During the meeting a caretaker committee was elected to establish short, medium and long term objectives, which will be presented to the membership during their first AGM.
A press statement is signed by Richard Gomila.
