EU upholds temporary halt to fishing
|
The European Commission says that member states can impose temporary restrictions on fishing by the fleet of other member countries within the territorial waters, in relation to guaranteeing the conservation of fishing resources, as the current EU directive states.
Answering a question in the European Parliament, the fisheries commissioner said that such norms hasve been operating satisfactorily, as a result of which it was proposed to extend such regime from next January to the end of 2022.
It has emerged that the EU is in the process of adopting new fishing rules on a permanent basis, which are expected to be tougher than the present regime.
