BREAKING NEWS: Power cut affects whole of Gibraltar

A major power cut has affected the whole of Gibraltar today. But power has now returned.
The power cut started at about 3.30pm Gibraltar time (CET) and it was not until about 7pm that electricity returned.
A large number of people were caught in lifts as a result of the power cut, the fire brigade having a busy time attending to numerous calls.
Apart from homes, businesses were affected. Tourists on Main Street were welcomed by blackouts at shows, while those in bars and cafes were able to get soft drinks, but nothing hot.
The hospital did not suffer the consequences as it has its own generators, as do some business premises. Some MOD areas were not affected.
A statement is to be put out later by the electricity authority.
