More evidence why the Rock is right
Britain uses Royal Navy ships against fishing boats in UK waters but will not do so in British Gibraltar waters. This has been confirmed following last week's case when two Spanish fishing firms were fined £1.62 million (equivalent to 2 million euros)for illegal fishing in British waters off the Cornish coast.

This case ended in court after HMS Tyne intercepted a Spanish fishing boat off the Isles of Scilly and carried out a routine check.

FISHERIES LEGISLATION

The Royal Navy says that the primary role of HMS Tyne is enforcement of national and EU fisheries legislation within British Fishery Limits. Tyne has also been designed to carry out a number of other tasks including environmental protection and maritime security.

Yet, the MOD sees the two RN patrol vessels stationed in Gibraltar as being there to uphold British territorial waters, while in Britain their primary role is fisheries legislation! More people will now ask why the Royal Navy is not allowed to undertake similar duties in Gibraltar, given the repeated flouting of Gibraltar law and the violations of British territorial waters.
