Spain regains lost ground, says Margallo

The Spanish foreign minister Margallo said yesterday that the Guardia Civil will continue to protect Spanish fishermen in waters near Gibraltar for as long as the conflict persists.

In a debating centre in Madrid, he had been asked if the Spanish government had abandoned the fishermen to their fate, with Margallo rejecting this.

He also said that Spain had to regain lost ground, which they had done by not recognising that Gibraltar should have a right of veto in any Anglo-Spanish negotiation, and also not giving Gibraltar a separate seat in the trilateral forum.

Both have been resolved, he told his audience, and now he expected that the issue of the fishermen will equally be resolved.
