Elderly folk celebrate jubilee
|
The residents of Mount Alvernia yesterday had their own red, white and blue lunch party in honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The bunting and decorations have been up at the dining hall at Mount Alvernia for a number of weeks and the entrance lobby has been adorned with decorations made by the service users themselves, assisted by staff during their activities sessions.
The Care Agency also invited the committee of the Friends of Mount Alvernia to the lunch to show its appreciation of the tireless work that they do for residents throughout the year.
Minister Samantha Sacramento joined the residents for the party and commenting on the event stated “Celebrations such as these are important to our older generation particularly since they experienced the Queen’s coronation and this may help trigger found memories of the event. It is also important that we invited the Friends of Mount Alvernia to this lunch given that they organise such an impressive lunch for residents on National Day every year. It is also a recognition by the Care Agency that their valuable work both in terms of fund raising as well as hands on assistance with residents of Mount Alvernia, which they all do on a voluntary basis, does not go unnoticed”.
