Bullfighting Conference Cancelled!
|
Instituto informs ‘Spanish Pro-Bullfighting and Anti-Gibraltar Blog,But Not Gibraltar’ The Cervantes Institute has apparently cancelled the second in a series of three Bullfighting conferences scheduled for tomorrow wednesday at the institutes’ premises at Market Lane.
The news comes at the back of a demonstration organisation by a group of local residents who are ‘against cruelty to animals in Gibraltar’. Over a 100 people protested outside the cervantes building last month when news of the up and coming series bullfighting conferences became known.
Over the weekend however it emerged that the Institute had cancelled the second programmed (bullfight) conference scheduled for tomorrow.
Although Officially and as one would have expected nothing has been made public in Gibraltar by the Cervantes, particularly after this issue created a substantial amount of public interest leading to a public demonstration!
However Panorama is reliably informed that the Institutes local Director Francisco Oda has decided to cancel the forthcoming conference due to one of the conference speakers being unable to attend.
The news in fact coming at a period when cross-frontier relations are strained to say the least, mainly due to events of the past few weeks! Already opinions are that the postponement of this next conference is down to the pressure the institute was under before the first conference took place last month, and also taking into consideration the present climate both here in Gibraltar and in Spain itself!
Although strangely enough and even though (as I have said) you would have expected an official note at least, to have been issued for local consumption by the Cervantes Institute confirming the next no-go bullfight conference. The Cervantes Institute however appears to have gone out of its way it seems, to communicate the possible postponement of the next conference to none other than a ‘Spanish Internet Pro-Bullfighting Blog Which Solely Exist for the Promotion of This so Called Spanish Cultural Sport’
The Blog in question named ‘Taurino Remellao’ is either a La Linea or Algeciras based blog – the blog itself is no more then a bullfighting soap- box to promote and glorify all aspects of bullfighting on its pages.
As can be seen from the blog in question over he weekend they published a copy of an email received from the Cervantes Institute in Gibraltar informing them that the ‘institute had received notice from the main speaker (a bullfighter) at the forthcoming conference was unable to attend due to family reasons’ the email is dated last Friday 8 June.
The Blogger and Apparent Friend of the Cervantes Institute …then goes into a tirade of attacks against Gibraltar and Gibraltar’s Chief Minister. Where the blogger himself appears to question the main contents of the email received regarding the motives behind the cancellation of the conference and blogs that ‘the environment in Gibraltar was not conducive to free speech’ obviously refereeing to bullfight conferences’.
The Blogger goes off at a tangent and refers to the incident regarding the spanish national and the football shirt; the said ‘spaniard or fool’ was detained by the RGP for inciting locals during the queen’s jubilee celebrations. Although the bloggers views were different of course, saying ‘that you cannot even come to Gibraltar wearing the spanish football teams shirt’.
The so called bullfighting blogger now turned ‘political activist’ for anything spanish then writes that they ‘principally feel sorry for the Gibraltarians they know, respectable and honest people who go and freely speak in La Linea’.
Than the blogger in his must strongest attack on Gibraltar said that ‘Picardo’s dogs bark behind the Frontier, but can only bite those behind the frontier fence’
As a matter of respect to the people of Gibraltar and considering the general public strong interest surrounding this issue, it was only to be expected that the Cervantes Institute would have had the decency to officially inform the people of Gibraltar instead of a ‘Spanish pro-bullfighting and anti-Gibraltar blog’ who have really nothing whatsoever to do (or we think they have nothing to do) with these conferences.
If these Bullfighting Conferences were ever geared for the people of Gibraltar then why were they not ‘Officially Informed First’ that these talks had been cancelled or postponed instead, a Spanish and rather nasty Pro-Bullfighting and clearly anti-Gibraltar Blog has published this information received it seems from the Cervantes in Gibraltar and at the same time makes numerous derogatory, offensive and hatful remarks against the People of Gibraltar!
And if these Bullfighting conferences as the Cervantes Institute would like us all to believe are not really about ‘Bullfighting or Cruelty or Suffering of the Animal’ then way do they appear to have a two-way communication with a totally glorifying pro-bullfighting organ - in the shape of an internet blog which is openly and politically it seems also anti-Gibraltar
At the Very Least the Cervantes Institute Should Distance Itself From the Insulting Comments Against Gibraltar in the ‘Taurino Remellao’ Blog over the Weekend!
