Civic reception for Bossano in Wolverhampton
|
Minister Joe Bossano has been received in Wolverhampton with a civic reception in his honour. Lord Bilston welcomed him.
The Labour controlled Council has been very supportive of Gibraltar, a support that has been created over the last twenty years by Lord Bilston who was formally MP for Wolverhampton and better known in Gibraltar as Dennis Turner.
Wolverhampton was one of the cities in the UK that held a Gibraltar Day to commemorate the tercentenary of Gibraltar.
The occasion in Wolverhampton this week served to highlight this solidarity, against the background of the current resurgence in the tensions over British sovereign waters and deliberate delays at the border with Spain. This current situation is reminiscent of tensions that the Government has previously encountered in order to put pressure on the UK and Gibraltar in respect of its sovereignty claim.
After a well-attended lunch hosted by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Milkinderpal Jaspal, Minister Bossano and his party was entertained by the Orpheus Male Voice Choir. Minister Bossano was accompanied by Albert Poggio, United Kingdom Representative, and Sara McFadyen from the Gibraltar Government London Office.
