Toxic tour
|
Following on from Bucket Brigade leader Denny Larson?s toxic tour in 2004, BBB representatives will be taking MEP Neil Parish on a similar ?toxic tour? of the CEPSA refinery and associated petrochemical industry this Thursday 13th April.
"It is hoped that a close-up view of the plants and proximity to residential areas will clearly illustrate the environmental and health crisis posed by this rapid evolution and expansion of industry," they say.
This visit follows on from the ESG trip to Strasbourg in February when Neil Parish and David Hammerstein (Spanish MEP) supported the group in its appeal to the Environment Commissioner for the need for stricter adherence to European environmental regulation in the Bay.
David Hammerstein was until yesterday, expected to join this tour, but has had to pull out due to unavoidable delay on his return from his trip to Tel-Aviv. It is hoped that he will be able to visit the area sometime soon.
It is hoped that this trip will further strengthen Mr Parish?s commitment to use his influence at the European Parliament to press for a clean-up and upgrade of these aging plants, said the BBB.
