Govt expects more talks with fishermen
|
A spokesman at No 6 Convent Place said last night that whilst the Government will always go “the extra mile” to work in co-operation with all of Gibraltar’s neighbours, and working people in particular, there is no question whatsoever of any agreement being entered into, in respect of any subject matter, which might purport to allow Gibraltar’s laws to be breached and which interferes with the operational independence of the law enforcement authorities in a manner that might compromise the supremacy of the rule of law in any way.
The Government has confirmed that the Department of the Environment has received the proposals made by the Federation of Andalucian Fishermen through the Office of the Commissioner of the Royal Gibraltar Police.
"The Department will of course be giving the proposals its full consideration to determine the technical issues that arise in respect of the differences there may be between the laws of Gibraltar and the European Union and looks forward to engaging the relevant individuals on the subject," it added. "The Department expects to be in touch with the relevant fishermen early next week to advance discussion on this subject."
