Farewells, Medals and Promotions

For the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, Friday was a day of farewells, medal presentations and promotions.

At a short ceremony, Commanding Officer, Lt Col Colin Risso MC, explained that it was twenty two years ago that the Regiment expanded in size when it changed its role to that of an infantry regiment. As a result, several members of the Regiment are now leaving after a full career of twenty two years. LCpl Tony Vinet, Sgt Norman Pozo, Sgt Freddie Pitt, WO2 Joe Bula, WO2 Danny Rowbottom and WO2 Raymond Grech were all thanked for their many years of outstanding service. ‘But you will always be a part of the regimental family,’ stressed the CO.

Long Service and Good Conduct medals, awarded for fifteen years of exemplary and distinguished service were then awarded to Cpl Damien Mauro, CSgt Grant Smith and CSgt Dean Castrey.

Finally, Lt Col Risso then announced 5 promotions to the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2. CSgt Dan Mifsud, CSgt Rob Perez, CSgt Grant Smith, CSgt Dean Castrey and CSgt Chris Canepa were all presented with their new badges of rank.
