Cigarettes found in car tyres, as four Spaniards are arrested

Officers of HM Customs arrested four Spanish nationals on Tuesday evening. Two men (aged 47 and 24) were arrested after a search of the two Spanish registered cars they were driving along Winston Churchill Avenue revealed a commercial quantity of cigarettes; 20,660 cigarettes (over 103 cartons) were detected concealed within the cars’ tyres, said Customs.

Consequent to this seizure, Customs entered a store in the area of Devil’s Tower Road, seized a further 20,040 cigarettes (100 cartons) and arrested two more Spanish men (aged 22 & 19) at the location, for Tobacco Act offences.

All four men have been bailed to surrender on April 25th. The cigarettes and both vehicles have been seized by HM Customs.
