Nigerian woman arrested at frontier with false Gib document

by PANORAMA reporter
A Nigerian woman has been arrested at the frontier by Spanish police for carrying a false Gibraltar document.

It happened when the Nigerian woman, aged 34, allegedly showed a Gibraltar residence document when crossing the frontier.

Spanish police said the document was false, and the woman was arrested for falsifying documents.

The police became suspicious when they saw the document, a residence card, and put it through their security system.

It has previously been reported that, in other instances, local youth have been gaining entrance to bars and similar establishments here in Gibraltar using faked ID cards. The purpose has been to be able to purchase alcoholic beverages when under-age.

It is not known how widespread such practices are, certainly there is no knowledge of any arrests having been made locally. But the evidence is there for the police to carry out the necessary checks to ensure that Gibraltar official documents are not being falsified.
