Sport Relief run launched
|
The Minister for Sport and Culture, Steven Linares, together with Wing Commander Jim Holland, the RAF Station Commander, have lauched the Sports Relief Run to be held on Saturday 24 March.
Over a million people in UK are expected to participate in over one hundred Sport Relief events in UK. Aimed to coincide with those events is Gibraltar’s own Sport Relief run.
To be accurate (and in line with UK), there will actually be three different runs – a One Mile Run which will start at 4.30 pm and a Three Mile and a Six Mile which will start together at 5pm. The runs are timed to begin after the final scheduled aircraft has left Gibraltar on the Saturday afternoon.
‘Everyone is invited to participate in what we hope will be a big fun event,’ said Wing Commander Jim Holland of RAF Gibraltar. ‘And we particularly welcome runners in fancy dress and block entries from companies, offices, and sports clubs. In fact, our aim is that the whole of Gibraltar will come together for a good cause.’
Entry fees for all three runs are:
Under 16s - £1; Adults - £2; Family Entry - £5.
In addition, the organisers hope that runners will raise extra cash from their own sponsorship.
All money raised by Gibraltar’s Sport Relief runs will go to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee charities in Gibraltar and the Commonwealth.
