Union to help Moroccans break language barrier

Moroccan workers have recently had 120 applications for naturalisation under the British Nationality Act approved, yet there still remain 80 applications pending.

The English language skills criterion has added an additional obstacle to their rights for naturalisation, says Unite. For many older Moroccans in Gibraltar English is their third language behind Spanish and as we all know the language spoken by them in their respective workplaces has always been precisely the Spanish language.

Unite the Union says it has in title past called for a clear and transparent naturalisation process and today is embarking on a project of practical assistance to its non E.U. members and their relatives to support them in obtaining the necessary basic skills and try to break this language barrier by offering evening classes.

Hopefully these pending applicants will today find themselves closer to having their rights respected as a direct result of the work being carried out by the Union.

*Unite extends this facility to all non EU workers who may find themselves in this same situation.
