Government confirms plans to expand financial services

Further to our report yesterday headed 'Gibraltar to expand financial services by taking on the big boys', the govenment has now issued a statement saying
Gilbert Licudi attended a journalists’ round table and funds industry seminar at Gibraltar House in London.

The Minister with responsibility for Financial Services, said the govenment, has been in London this week attending and speaking at two events aimed at the Asset Management and Funds Industry. These events were organised by Hassans and Deloitte.

The journalists’ round table was a breakfast meeting with individuals representing specialist Funds periodicals. This was an opportunity to update London-based press on what Gibraltar offers in both the asset management and funds sectors. Later that evening, Mr Licudi was invited to deliver an address to an industry audience consisting of, inter alia, specialist lawyers, accountants, investment banks and prime brokers.

Mr Licudi said: “I am delighted to have had the opportunity to speak at the events organised by Hassans and Deloitte as the Funds arena is one which the Government has identified for significant expansion in the future. The Government will continue to support these initiatives from the Gibraltar Financial Services Industry."
