New government's pledge on transparency means they will continue to inform the public
|
The GSD Opposition has issued a press release, in response to the information provided by the new Government in respect of payments made to family interests of a GSD Minister, which accuses the Government of abuse of power and trying to orchestrate a witch-hunt.
The Government adds: "The original statement issued by the GSLP/Liberal Government, far from being an abuse or a witch-hunt, concentrated simply on the facts and on the value for money aspect of the transactions in question.
"It is a fact that the family interests of a former GSD Government Minister was paid nearly £500,000.
"What was a witch-hunt, immature and an abuse was the campaign of "trial by Government" that was orchestrated by the GSD, when they were in Office, which questioned the fitness for office of the now Chief Minister Fabian Picardo.
"GSD Government statements on the subject were loaded with accusations and with innuendo.
"The problem with the GSD Opposition is that they have a selective memory when it comes to the things that they said and the way in which they behaved when they were in Government."
The new Government was elected on a pledge of openness and transparency. It is logical, in such circumstances, that we live up to that pledge by making information public.
