Gibraltar government jolted by Moratinos' call for sovereignty talks
|
The call by the Spanish foreign minister for early talks on Gibraltar's sovereignty has jolted No.6 Convent Place.
The ink was not yet dry on Sr Moratinos' "Querido Jack" letter to Mr Straw when the Gibraltar government was asking for clarifications.
According to the government, the letter is 'inaccurate and incorrect in several material respects', which requires clarification from Mr Straw.
The chief minister has lost no time in writing to the foreign secretary and says it will await events.
If any clarification is forthcoming, it must not be a little letter for local consumption.
If anyone has any clarifying to do it is Sr Moratinos, and no doubt Mr Straw will tell him to address the 'inaccurate and incorrect' statements, by sending another 'Querido Jack' letter for publication and release by the Spanish foreign ministry, as was the case with the previous letter.
This is what Gibraltar expects.
