ORIEL COLLEGE, OXFORD, FLIES GIBRALTAR FLAG

The election of Fabian Picardo as Chief Minister of Gibraltar has been commemorated by Oriel College, Oxford, by flying the Gibraltar flag.

Oriel College is one of the oldest at Oxford University having been founded in 1265. Mr Picardo studied jurisprudence there from 1990 to 1993. This is the first time the Castle and Keys of Gibraltar is flown at Oriel, in line with the flag of many countries whose Prime Ministers and political leaders attended the College. The Stars and Stripes was flown by University College when Bill Clinton first became President of the United States.
Chief Minister Fabian Picardo said he felt highly privileged and overjoyed that Gibraltar had made its mark at Oxford with the recognition of his electoral victory. Mr Picardo added he was confident new entrants from Gibraltar would continue to study at Oxford, Cambridge and other great British universities in the future. 16.12.2011
