GSLP Liberal's future strategy will guarantee jobs for all residents

The GSLP Liberals will adopt a job strategy initiative immediately after the General Election with a target commencement date of 1st January 2012.
A statement adds that it will replace the existing Vocational Training Scheme with a better system and will provide dedicated training leading to guaranteed employment. Persons covered by these new arrangements will have contracts of employment and will be covered by all the provisions of the Employment Act giving them the same protection as all other employees in the labour market, something which is not the case with the present vocational trainees.

Trainees in the existing scheme can remain to complete their current programme or opt to transfer to the new system after 1st January 2012 when the strategy is in place. The choice will be entirely theirs.

All existing trainees in Government sponsored schemes, school leavers, unemployed persons seeking employment or currently only working on a supply basis as required, as well as those aged 15 or over in current education at school, college or university who wish to avail themselves of these opportunities in the future and want further information should submit an expression of interest application form to the GSLP Headquarters as a result of which they will be contacted and a one to one interview carried out in order to assess the areas of interest and the level of skills that they possess and how best they can be fitted into the programme to ensure their future employment once the policy is implemented in government.

Shadow Minister for Employment, Joe Bossano, said: “In Parliament for the past 15 years I have been arguing for a strategy that guarantees jobs for all Gibraltar residents. This is the programme that will make that policy a reality.”
