Frigate follows Spanish vessel out of British waters

The frigate HMS Argyll shadowed a Spanish customs vessel that had made an incursion into British territorial waters yesterday.

The Argyll was leaving the Naval Base after its stop-over at Gibraltar on its way to the Middle East. "HMS ARGYLL sailed round to the eastern side of the Rock to conduct some Boarding Party training with the Gibraltar Squadron. There, it observed a Spanish customs vessel heading south and within BGTW," said MOD spokesman.

The MOD added that "Argyll turned and followed the customs vessel round Europa Point and into the Bay where the customs vessel exited BGTW."

ARGYLL's helicopter had already been launched in readiness for the training exercise.
