Mixing politics with religion

In our printed edition yesterday, we covered the visit to the City Hall of a contingent of young Maltese people, here for the ‘Youth Arise’ event.

Accompanying them was a group of Spanish youths, which we believe came from La Linea. Fair enough, except that as they left the City Hall, having been welcomed by the Mayor, the Spanish group broke out into a loud rendition of ‘Viva España’ and cries of ‘Gibraltar Español.’

Bystanders, who had been enjoying the religious songs of praise by the group earlier, approached the party and told them to desist, asking if they were not ashamed to be mixing politics with religion.

The police were also called, who warned them that they were causing offence and should stop, which they then did.
