Unite's District Committee needs to refine its focus and define new priorities
|
The Gibraltar District Committee of Unite were joined by Kevin Coyne, National Officer, and Jim Mowatt, Director of Education, at the Eliott Hotel for a Strategy Workshop. The event was facilitated by Bob Fazakerley, Unite’s senior tutor.
There was enthusiastic recognition that, in order for the Union to better organize and represent its members, the District Committee needed to refine its focus and define new priorities.
District Officer, Charlie Sisarello commented: “This was an important event for us. The opportunity to step back and discuss the direction we need to take was of enormous value. Our objectives as a Union are now more ordered and clear, and the District Committee has been able to reconfirm its unity”.
The workshop concentrated on how change impacts itself on organizations, and how Unite needed to equip itself for the future. Arising from the discussion, the District Committee resolved to embrace a more systematic method of communication, emphasizing the need for a better dialogue between its members, workplace representatives, its District Officers, and the Committee itself.
Charlie Sisarello: “This workshop was not merely an isolated event. We have now entered into a process where we will constantly monitor and review what we do as a District Committee, and as a Union. This can only further improve our position as the only independent Union representing working people in Gibraltar."
