Chamber welcomes the introduction of CCTV and new air route

The Chamber of Commerce says it welcomes the announcement that the Government will introduce CCTV in strategic areas around Gibraltar. In 2009 the Chamber conducted a poll among its members on this issue and the results showed that over 90 per cent of respondents were in favour of introducing cameras as it would help to reduce vandalism and discourage anti-social behaviour.

On a separate issue the Chamber says it is heartened to hear of the new air route to Gibraltar being planned by bmibaby from the East Midlands in the Spring of 2012. "This will bring more tourists and business people to the Rock and it also is likely to give a welcome fillip to local hotels, some of which have seen falls in occupancy rates in the last couple of years. The addition of a fourth airline offering services to and from Gibraltar will increase utilisation of the new air terminal as well," they said.
