Frigate arrives today on way to East

The Type 23 frigate, HMS Monmouth will visit the Naval Base from today to Thursday. She sailed from her home port of Plymouth on Saturday for a six-month deployment to the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Gulf.

In these areas, Monmouth will be working closely with coalition forces to counter terrorism, to prevent smuggling and to deter and disrupt piracy, said the MOD.

‘HMS Monmouth departs the UK fully prepared to carry out our important tasking,’ said Monmouth’s Commanding Officer, Commander Dean Bassett. ‘My Ship’s Company are keen to make a contribution to enhancing the security and stability of the region.’
