Around ?8,000 disappears in daring robbery in Main Street

There was a daring robbery from a bureau de change in Main Street, with thousands of pounds having disappeared. The police are asking for help.

It happened on Friday at 7pm in the bureau de change opposite the Horseshoe Bar, said the RGP.

The owner was on his own when two men entered the bureau. One of them hit the owner, whilst the other entered the cash area behind the counter. The safe was open.

The men grabbed what is being estimated as over ?8,000.

DESCRIPTION

The owner gave the following description to police of one of the men: 5 foot 9 inches tall, slim but muscular built, very short light brown hair, clean-shaven, mid-20s. Was wearing a white t-shirt and knee-length white and blue chequered shorts.

Bomb? Rubbish!

Staff at the Department of Social Security felt insecure yesterday morning when a call was received about a mysterious bag having been left in the area.

Security evacuated the building to check things out. But it turned out to be...a rubbish bag!

The RGP said yesterday that if anybody noticed anything suspicious on that day at around that time, they should call 72500 and ask for the Duty officer. Information will be treated in the strictest confidence, said police.
