Man charged for domestic violence

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department investigating what the RGP describe as "a serious case of domestic violence" arrested on Tuesday a local man who is alleged to have seriously assaulted his ex-partner and also assaulted his 16-month old sibling.

The man was being sought after by Police following a complaint which was filed against him by his ex-partner. Police added that it was known that he had left the jurisdiction shortly after the commission of the alleged offence.

On Monday evening he turned himself in to the police where he was interviewed and later charged with:

One count of Common Assault on the 16 month old child.

One count of Indecent Assault on the ex-partner.

One count of Assault Occasioning Grievous Bodily Harm on the ex-partner.

One count of false imprisonment whereby having assaulted his ex-partner he unlawfully and injuriously imprisoned and detained her against her will

One count of Kidnapping whereby he unlawfully and by force took and carried away his ex-partner against her will.

The man, whose name has been withheld by police for legal reasons, remained in police custody until his appearance in court. He has been remanded in custody at HM Prison and the matter adjourned.
