Hotels on the rocks?

Room occupancy at Gibraltar hotels would seem to indicate that the industry as a whole appears to be on the rocks. And that is nothing new.

In other places, such as in the Costa del Sol, if a hotel does not have 90% occupancy at the minimum, they start to get worried.

The latest figures for Gibraltar show that in 2009, occupancy was 57%.

And apart from 2004 and 2005, when it was 68%, the situation has not been anything to write home about.

Another negative factor is that average length of stay remains quite low at around 3 days.
