New treatment area in Primary Care Centre

As part of the GHA’s ongoing commitment to improve patient access and standards of care in the many services that it provides, a new purpose built and newly equipped treatment area has been added to the Primary Care Centre.

"The area has been designed to meet the ever increasing demand for the services which practice nurses provide. It will be used for the treatment and management of chronic wounds, such as ulcers, for a variety of dressings, minor surgical procedures and other medical procedures such as Doppler Scanning," said the GHA.

The new treatment area provides a spacious environment which includes three treatment bays, a preparation room, sluice area and storage room. It has been fitted to the specifications of the practice nurses who work there.

The area will also incorporate a phototherapy unit for the dermatology service.

Phototherapy is the controlled use of UVA/UVB light to help control a number of debilitating skin conditions, such as psoriasis, vitiligo and chronic actinic dermatitis.

On inaugurating the new treatment area, the Minister for Health, Yvette Del Agua, said: “the increased area capacity which has now been provided, will allow practice nurses to structure the demand for their services much more effectively, with a view to improving patient access and reducing waiting times. I am also very pleased to note that the design has taken into consideration the needs of the category of patients who access this service, the majority of whom are senior citizens”.
