Union meeting at No.6 over toll topics
|

by PANORAMA reporter Two unions from La Linea, CCOO and UGT, and one from Gibraltar, Unite, met with the chief minister Peter Caruana yesterday to consider the proposed toll by the mayor Alejandro Sanchez and related matters. The meeting was an opportunity to analyse the situation.
All agreed that the toll should not go ahead, with Mr Caruana expressing anger.
One of the consequences that could flow from a toll was that good neighbourly relations could be destroyed.
The meeting was an attempt to create consensus. "It was agreed to work towards this kind of thing not happening again," said a spokesman at No.6.
Mr Caruana said Gibraltar was always willing to cooperate with the Campo: "What's good for the Campo is good for Gibraltar, and vice versa."
Asked about the prospect of a meeting with the mayor, Mr Caruana said there is still time for Sr Sanchez to withdraw. But the climate was wrong at the moment.
It is known that the unions have been angling for a demonstration this month, although the Gibraltar Government takes the line that we should await if the toll is implemented before a demonstration takes place.
