Cervantes director concerned that Gibraltar's youth are speaking less Spanish
|
Another moan from Spain, this time by the director of the Instituto Cervantes which Spain wants to open in Gibraltar. He reckons that the use of Spanish among Gibraltar's younger people has been decreasing - and Spain must do something about it!
Francisco Oda has already been named director of the planned institute in Gibraltar , the opening of which has been delayed.
The Instituto Cervantes is not only a language academy, it is a centre of Spanish culture, he said.
He now expects that the institute will open in Gibraltar in December. What a Christmas present!
He insists that it is important that the institute be in Gibraltar where it has been detected that the use of Spanish by the young is decreasing. Thus, it would be 'very positive' for Spain that there be an institute Cervantes in Gibraltar.
