Donation from Hospital Friends
|
Mrs Marilyn Azopardi, Chair of the League of Hospital Friends, is donating a patient transport monitor to the GHA.
The monitor, called an Intelli Vue MMSx2, is manufactured by Philips Medical Systems and is specifically designed to provide the ability to monitor a patient as if they were in the Intensive Care Unit while the patient is being moved from one care location to another. The equipment is light (weighs only 1.2kg) and can provide the intensive care team with readings of ECO with ST segment analysis; Blood Pressure; Pulse; Temperature; and Body Oxygen concentration in real time as the patient is being transported from A&E to Radiology; Radiology to ITU; ITU to Theatre etc. The model donated has the added value of being fully compatible with the GHA's existing ITU monitoring system allowing an automatic permanent record of all the monitored values to be upgraded to the ITU system.
The equipment purchase was a collaborative effort. In addition to the £3,700 provided by the League of Hospital Friends, the donation included nearly £1,000 raised by Nicole Patterson Roberts and Dr Richard Roberts in their climb of Mt Elbrus in the Caucasus Mountains in Russia. That donation included a donation by the family of the late Eve Rodney.
In presenting the cheque for £3,700 to Yvette Del Agua, Chair of the GHA Board, Mrs Azopardi said that "the League of Hospital Friends was extremely proud to be able to make their donation for such an important piece of equipment adding that collaborating on the project meant that much more could be achieved with their donation." "This was yet another example of the excellent work carried out by the League of Hospital Friends who work quietly and tirelessly supporting hospital patients in Gibraltar," said Mrs Del Agua.
Dr Roberts said that "the contributions of many friends and colleagues in St Bernard's helped enormously in setting and achieving the goal of climbing Mt Elbrus and we are most grateful to all who helped contribute to the safe transfer of patients via the purchase of the monitor." The Rodney family expressed their hope to Dr Richard Roberts "that the monitor will continue to improve the already world class quality of care the hospital already provides across all acute care areas." Dr David McCutcheon, Chief Executive of the Gibraltar Health Authority, added "that the safe transfer of patients who are critically ill is a challenge for any health service and achieving this goal with such great support from the League, Richard, Nicky & colleagues, the Family of Mrs Rodney and the charitable spirit of the community, was simply wonderful.
