Gibraltar will be participating in the 5th edition of the Routes Europe forum, which opens today in Toulouse, France. This international event is held over two days and allows European airlines and airports the opportunity to meet face to face to discuss new route development proposals.
Gibraltar will be represented by the Minister for Transport, Joe Holliday, who will be accompanied by the Director of Civil Aviation and the Chief Executive of the Gibraltar Tourist Board.
"The Gibraltar Delegation will be having a number of pre-arranged meetings with airlines to discuss new market opportunities in Gibraltar upon the completion of the New Air Terminal next year," says the Government. It adds that there will also be discussions with the airlines, and developing relationships with other airports from which these airlines might serve new routes to Gibraltar and promoting Gibraltar Airport to the General Aviation sector.
Mr Holliday said, “The airline industry is currently experiencing difficulties as a result of the prevailing economic conditions worldwide. However there is optimism that 2011, the year in which the New Air Terminal commences operations, will result in improved performance. It is therefore important that Gibraltar is represented at this event, which has become the most important forum in the airline route development calendar in Europe. It will provide the Gibraltar delegation with the ideal opportunity to promote the excellent facilities that will become available in the New Air Terminal to a wide audience of airline executives.”
