Swine Flu on the rocks

In Gibraltar, 2,880 persons have been vaccinated against swine flu since the process commenced on 16 November last year.

The swine flu hotline received 348 calls in october 2009, 1140 in November, 231 in December and 25 in January this year.

The number of persons who were medically assessed and tested positive for Influenza 'A' was 29 in October, 79 in November and 3 in December.

The number of persons who were prescribed Tamiflu was 72 in October 2009, 276 in November, 73 in December and 95 in January this year.

The total cost of converting and preparing the facility at the ex-NAAFI depot at Waterport into a vaccination centre was £83,780, plus one Sister, 4 Staff Nurses, 3 clerical grades, 4 nursing assistants and one doctor.

There were also 15,000 copies of the vaccination leaflet printed for £3,623 and distributed to all households by civil servants under GPO supervision.
