Alice in Wonderland on the Rock
|
Pantomine season is upon us again and the Trafalgar Theatre Group has come up with a version of "Alice in Wonderland" certain to delight all the family.
As director Margaret Seed explains on the programme.
"Pantomime is a popular form of theatre, incorporating song, dance, buffoonery, slapstick, cross-dressing, in jokes and audience participation.
Aimed mainly for the younger members of the audience it should also hold appeal to everyone who remembers being a child.
"Alice in Wonderland" is a novel written by in 1865. It tells the story of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar creatures.
Our production has some of the familiar characters, certainly no shortage of peculiar creatures, but that is where all the similarities end!
We offer our apologies to the Lewis Carroll for the liberties taken with his original story - but surely it was ever thus with pantomime, that great British tradition?
Please feel free to participate vocally - it is not only expected but actively encouraged — but most of all enjoy the performance."
The director adds:
"Please remember that we are an amateur group and everyone on and offstage has given many hours of their free time to produce today's entertainment.
I am extremely grateful to them all."
