MILITARY MBE IN NEW YEAR LIST

In the New Year’s Honours List, Able Rating Rosie Broderick has been awarded the MBE for her work in Gibraltar from April 2007 to February 2009. Although she has since taken up a post back in UK, the award covers the time that she worked as the Steward to Commander British Forces as well as assisting with a wide variety of events in Rooke Officers’ Mess.

Despite several good offers of employment elsewhere, Rosie had chosen to stay on in the Navy so that she could continue to work with several charities and voluntary organisations – indeed, her citation describes her as being ‘seemingly omnipresent at every volunteer-based charity or fund-raising event.’ In particular, the Royal Air Force Association, MacMillan Cancer Relief and the Big Salute all benefited from her tireless efforts.

Her citation goes on to describe her as being an ‘all too rare example of one who gains immense pride in performing behind the scenes for no personal gain…. She is one of those extraordinary people who demonstrate consistent and exceptional ability, loyalty and dedication to both her primary role and her charity endeavours.’ And, despite the formality of the Navy’s official citation, Rosie is described as being ‘the Forces Favourite’ in Gibraltar.

*Also in the New Year’s Honours List is Captain Rob Campbell, of Defence Equipment and Support in Gibraltar, who has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
