easyJet confirm evacuation of lightning-struck flight
|
easyJet say they can confirm that flight EZY8903 from London Gatwick to Gibraltar was diverted to Malaga due to adverse weather in the area. It follows our report.
The aircraft was struck by lightning whilst being parked on the ground after landing in Malaga. As a precaution and following standard operating procedures, the Captain decided to evacuate the aircraft.
The aircraft acted as a natural insulator against the lightning strike by routing the lightning through to the ground.
easyjet adds: The flight was operated by an Airbus A319 with 138 passengers and 6 crew members on board.
Safety is easyJet’s number one priority and following the incident the aircraft was inspected by our engineers at Malaga Airport.
The passengers were fully supported by easyJet and Airport staff, and were coached that evening from Malaga to Gibraltar Airport.
