Keep out of Gib waters
- UK tells Spain

by PANORAMA reporter
Another flare up in Spain following the firing incident. Now, the Spanish media are highlighting that Britain has told Spain to keep out of Gibraltar's territorial waters.

A British note to Spain says that the Guardia Civil should stop patrolling Gibraltar's waters, adding that such incursions are a violation of British sovereignty and harm the cooperation in the tripartite forum.

It is recalled that Gibraltar police told the Guardia Civil on two occasions in September to clear off from Gibraltar waters when the Spanish did not give a valid reason for being there.

Such incursions are a matter of great concern, said Britain, and are unacceptable.

Such incidents are contrary to the spirit of cooperation that became evident during the last round of tripartite talks held in Gibraltar and which was attended by the Spanish foreign minister Moratinos.

Britain says it does not recognise any rights to Spanish vessels to carry out searches or other executive activities in British Gibraltar territorial waters.Spain has no rights in Gibraltar waters.
