Switch-on of Christmas lights
|
The Christmas Illuminations will be switched on this Friday at 6.30pm. The ceremony will
take place on the Main Street side of the John Mackintosh Square in front of Parliament House.
Fourteen-year-old Jamie Lee Cooper together with four year old Isabelle Piror, from the 3rd Rainbow Unit
who is representing the Girl Guide movement celebrating their 100th anniversary, will be switching on the
illuminations brightening Gibraltar’s main thoroughfare in the run up to Christmas Day and throughout the
festive season.
They will be accompanied by their families and friends together with Joe Holliday, Minister for Enterprise, Development, Technology and Transport and the staff of the Gibraltar Electricity Authority engaged in the installation of the illuminations.
Everyone is welcome to attend this colourful ceremony which traditionally sets Gibraltar on a cheerful festive mood.
Proceedings commence at 6pm, when St Joseph’s Middle School choir will be performing a selection of
popular carols for the enjoyment of all those present.
Following the switching-on ceremony, the illuminations will thereafter come on, automatically, every day
until the 6th January, from 5pm until 1am, and as from 9.30am on Saturdays leading to Christmas Day. As customary they will remain on throughout the nights of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and the 5th January.
