'RGP polices Gibraltar with the consent of the community," says police authority

Pursuant to the Police Act 2006, the Gibraltar Police Authority is required to provide a mechanism for enhanced police accountability through a process of consultation with the community. Given that the Royal Gibraltar Police polices Gibraltar with the consent of the community, one of the key objectives of the Authority is to consult widely with the people of Gibraltar to identify and analyse the concerns and expectations of the whole community on policing matters. That’s what the police authority says.
It adds: This consultation with the community will help the Authority to draw up the Annual Policing Plan which the Authority is required to prepare for the Royal Gibraltar Police. The Policing Plan will set the policing priorities and targets for the Royal Gibraltar Police for the year.
One form that the consultation will take in preparation for the drawing up of the 2010/2011 Policing Plan is by means of a survey. The Authority has produced a simple questionnaire which will be sent to all householders with their electricity and water bills.
All members of the community are asked to complete the questionnaire and to return it by depositing it in any post box (no stamp is required) or to deliver it to the Gibraltar Police Authority premises at No. 1, Casemates House, Casemates Square. Alternatively, the questionnaire is available online at www.gpa.gi
The Authority has also planned a series of initiatives in connection with the survey which will include the following:
1.Members of the Authority will be in attendance at Casemates Square on Saturday 21st & Saturday 28th November from 10.00 a.m to 1.00 p.m. to distribute copies of the questionnaire and to answer any questions from the general public.
2.On Tuesday 24th, Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th November, members of the Authority will be in attendance at the John Mackintosh Hall from 6.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. where members of the public will be able to address any policing issue under the remit of the Authority.
3.The Authority will write to all recognised tenants associations to seek the views of their members on policing issues.
4.The Authority will also write to various organisations including the business community.
5.Members of the Authority will address students of Westside and Bayside Schools and the College of Further Education.
