Gibraltar owes what it is to former Spanish workers, says La Linea mayor

The mayor of La Linea Juan Carlos Juarez says he wants to remind chief minister Peter Caruana that Gibraltar is what it is today thanks to the efforts of former Spanish workers in Gibraltar.

It is as if the mayor thinks that other nationals, including Gibraltarians, who have worked in Gibraltar all their lives have contributed nothing to Gibraltar's economy!

Sr Juarez had been meeting with the La Linea association of eSpanish pensioners, Alpeg, who reiterated that there would be no protests until after the first quarter of the year. They are concerned about the delays in an agreement over payment to Spanish pensioners.

It was in the context of finding a solution for the pensioners that Sr Juarez reminded Mr Caruana of the work done by ex Spanish workers in Gibraltar.

The Gibraltar opposition has already said that whatever payments are made to the former Spanish workers must be made to Gibraltar pensioners.
