Expected to live on £634 monthly
|
The Elderly Persons Minimum Income Payment continues to be paid at the rate of £475 per month for a single person and £634 per month for a couple. These payments are means tested and income from all sources must be declared.
For example if a person has an Old Age Pension and/or Community Care Payment these amounts are taken into account and it is only the difference that is paid to bring the total monthly income to the £475 for a single or £634 for a couple. The end result is that a couple is expected to live on £634 monthly.
The Gibraltar pensioners Association adds: "We have been making representations to Government about these payments and pointing out the financial difficulties being encountered to make ends meet and we look and expect Government to take action, in the not too distant future, to increase these amounts to a more realistic figure.
"It should be noted that this benefit is also made to persons who have not attained the age of 60 as long as the application is made as a married couple and one of the applicants has attained the age of 60."
