Over 120 arrests and crime reports during festive season

The police handled over 120 arrests and crime reports during the festive season. And four juveniles appeared in a special court yesterday, charged with a burglary.

The burglary was reported as having occurred in the early hours of Friday in the Atlantic Suites building in the Europort complex.

A police statement said that various offices used by contractors there were ransacked and about ?2,200 stolen. Various items were also found damaged, such as three laptop computers which had their screens smashed.

Police initiated an investigation which resulted in four juveniles being arrested. Various search warrants were executed.

"As a result of these actions over ?2,200 was recovered," said the RGP, which added that CCTV footage within the site proved extremely useful in detecting the crime.

Two of the juveniles charged with burglary were males aged 14 and 16, as well as two females, aged 14 and 15. They appeared at a special session of a juvenile court yesterday afternoon.

LONG WEEKEND

In fact there were a total of 29 arrests over this long weekend itself. Arrests included making a disturbance, actual bodily harm, violent behaviour, driving over the prescribed limit, controlled drug, theft, obstructing police, drunk and disorderly, assault and causing damage.

As regards a total of 21 crime reports, five were for causing damage, there was also a threatening phone call as well as an annoying call, three burglaries and four reports of assault, etc.

A number of traffic accidents were also reported.
