'Reds' over the Rock

by PANORAMA reporter
The celebrations in Gibraltar at the weekend of the 'Battle of Britain' was a spectacular success, with the display by the Red Arrows a sensational display witnessed by thousands of people.

All roads led to Europa Point to gain a vantage point to see the famous 'Red Arrows'. The area was packed with cars -and even access roads were equally full of cars. The public did not want to miss anything!

There has been much appreciative comment not only in Gibraltar but also in the Spanish neighbourhood. People in the Campo, as soon as they

realised what was happening, also had their sights fixed to the skies of Gibraltar to watch the spectacle - a great triumph for the RAF, their pilots and Britain as a whole.

The open day also drew the crowds in what was the biggest array of aircraft that anyone can remember, given that 'Battle of Britain' days are normally visited by a handful of RAF aircraft.

This year, with the Spanish government claiming Gibraltar's waters, it was welcomed by everyone that the commemoration of the 'Battle of Britain' became a major event with over 20 military aircraft in Gibraltar's airspace.
