Haymills (Gibraltar) goes into liquidation

Late last night government issued a press release which confirms problems at Haymills (Gibraltar), as reported by Panorama last week over the low-cost housing at Rosia.

The Government has been notified that Haymills (Gibraltar) Limited has today passed a Special Resolution to place the company into Creditors' Voluntary Liquidation, following, it understands, the withdrawal of support by their UK parent consequent on the economic situation prevailing in the UK.

Haymills (Gibraltar) Limited (and related companies) have over 200 employees working on a number of contracts for Government, namely, the three affordable housing schemes in the South District, the Trafalgar Interchange and the refurbishment of the Public Market.

The Government has terminated these contracts with Haymills (Gibraltar) Limited and is making alternative arrangements for works to continue on these sites. In order to allow time for consideration of the best way forward following the failure of Haymills (Gibraltar) Limited, and to ensure progress of the works on these Government projects, the employees of Haymills (Gibraltar) Limited (and related companies) will be offered an 8 week contract of employment by Gibraltar General Construction Company Limited, a wholly-owned Government company.
