Spaniard arrested for underwater fishing

A Spanish national has been arrested by RGP officers for the offence of underwater fishing with the use of an aqualung. The man, in his 40s and resident in Algeciras, was found to be in possession of approximately 7 kgs of sea anemonae.

These were examined by experts and found not be protected species, nonetheless their capture through the use of an aqualung is prohibited in Gibraltar. The creatures were all returned to the sea and the man released on police bail until the investigation is completed.
